A Brief History...

The South Dade Community Choir, Inc. was the idea of Homestead resident Sandy Keffer. Sandy and others she knew wanted to present the patriotic cantata “I Love America” to the community. The idea was approved by the Homestead Ministerial Association and word soon spread that a new choir was forming. It became known as the “I Love America” choir, and the concert was a big hit with the community in that summer of 1991.

Afterwards the members felt they wanted to stay together, so they became the South Dade Community Choir, Inc. with Sandy as the director. They invited others to join them and they soon began to branch out with an expanded concert schedule. They became an outreach ministry of the First Presbyterian Church of Homestead. Membership included teens to senior citizens, people of different nationalities, and even the physically challenged.

Through tragedies such as Hurricane Andrew in 1992 and great blessings like the International Advent Sing in Vienna, Austria, the South Dade Community Choir, Inc. has continued its ministry. A list of its achievements would include participating in events such as Star Fest ’97, the Dade County Youth Fair, and the first ever Christian Fest event in South Dade.

Multiple churches have hosted the choir. As the church they formed at, the First Presbyterian Church was where rehearsals were held initially and for years to come. They later practiced at New Beginnings Christian Fellowship. Currently the rehearsals are held at Silver Palm United Methodist Church.

Our Mission...

The South Dade Community Choir, Inc. is a group of people who love the Lord, love to sing and love to be together. We seek to provide residents of the Miami-Dade County area with an opportunity to participate in musical activities that glorify God, within a friendly and supportive environment that is racially, ethnically and culturally diverse. Our goal is to present the message of Christ through music and the Word of God. Our purpose is so that the community can see that Christians can and do have a great time serving our Lord and Savior.

The choir currently features a broad range of voices, creating a rich, powerful whole. If you’d like to add your voice to the mix, then why don’t you join us?
